    Basic Tree Maintenance Tips

Trees can often be considered approved but extreme weather can take its toll. It’s important to keep trees healthy and try to avoid diseases or weather damage.

One of the very first things you can do is discover the trees you want to look after and their particular needs. If you’re not sure about the type of tree you have, there are numerous resources online to help you, such as the Forestry Commission Tree Name Trail. When looking into trees, the main things to watch out for are:

    • Kind of soil needed
    • Quantity of water needed
    • Specific sensitivities (dry spell, water, wind, etc).

As soon as you understand more about your trees, follow these 5 pointers to keep your trees resistant and healthy.

    Secure the roots.

Focus on the zone around a tree as much as where the branches extend. Roots can extend beyond this zone however this is the location where roots are more sensitive. The secret is to make sure that the soil is not too compact so that roots can keep taking in water and oxygen.

    Protect the bark.

Think of the bark as an armour that protects the tree. Securing the tree bark will avoid infections, illness or insect activity. Watch out for possible dangers that could harm tree bark, including:.

    • Vehicles: trees near roadways or driveways can suffer hits from high vehicles. Remove lower branches to prevent breakage and make sure trees show up at night.
    • Lawn sprinklers: a spray of water that over and over again hits bark at the same place can cause damage. If you use sprinklers to water your lawn, ensure these do not straight strike trees.
    • Branches: branches rubbing versus each other can cause damage to the bark. Prune branches correctly so branches do not get braided.
    • Yard equipment: put on; t get lawn equipment close to the tree trunks as this can trigger major damage to the bark.

    Water successfully.

Trees usually grow well in existing moisture conditions and do not need any extra watering. Nevertheless, depending on your local environment, you may need to water your trees throughout extended periods of drought. If you do need to water trees in the summer, an occasional deep watering is chosen to a regular misting. In winter season trees shouldn’t need any watering.

    Prune properly.

We’ve formerly discussed pruning trees as it’s a vital part of tree upkeep. It’s something you can do yourself if you know exactly what you are doing, otherwise you can constantly work with an expert. The main points to look out for are:.

    • Crossing branches: get rid of the smaller sized branch so the more powerful one can grow without being damaged.
    • Broken and dead branches: a tidy cut will help the tree recover.

Low branches: remove branches that are low and are prone to damage (i.e. by an effect). You can also remove low branches for aesthetic functions.

    Keep soil healthy.

There are two methods you can ensure that the soil around your tree is abundant in nutrients.

    • Use mulch. Spread a layer of mulch around your tree, about 2 to 4 inches thick. The mulch does not have to touch the trunk.
    • Plant grass or some type of ground cover. Dead plant product will decay in the ground and enrich the soil. Make certain your plants can prosper in the shade and that their roots do not take on the tree.
